On November 24th, 2014, the nation erupted in protest. Earlier that day, a grand jury had decided not to indict Darren Wilson, a Ferguson, Mo. police officer involved in the fatal shooting of 18-year-old Michael Brown. Around the country, from New York to Los Angeles, Michael Brown sympathizers were enraged, and took to the streets to show it. In downtown Los Angeles, so many people, both black and white, marched in sympathy that the highways ended up closing for the night.
